THE PACK LEADER
November 2000 Newsletter
This letter combines November & December as news is light on the ground, particularly with Jeffrey & I taking the last half of December, & the first half of January off as our annual break. The year 2000 was very constructive for us with achievements from loyal and dedicated students and of course, putting the odd nose out of joint. We have stuck to our policy of not pandering to sensitive egos, and pushing on with people who attend classes with the intention of getting control of their dogs so they are sociable, disciplined and not a nuisance to the owners or public. There are trainers who oblige people who only wish to "play at training", and there is clearly a demand for that sort of training. Yes, we are tough on our students and demand a work ethic from all owners as we pursue our philosophy of training all dogs on Service Dog lines and working dog ethics. That is, dogs obedient under stressful circumstances. Our classes seem to have struck a niche market, but its nice to take dogs who are on deaths row in particular, and turn them into wonderful happy animals. Not to mention happy owners.
We have also been adopted by the Guide Dog Training Centre, Qld and will be holding classes on their premises at Bald Hills. Brisbane in the new year. (Not training guide dogs) Thanks to my dear friend Val Bonney – author of the wonderful book "Who's the Boss" – who’s encouragement and support led us to the Guide Dog Centre.
Jeffrey and I have now taken up residence at 110 Beams Rd, Boondall 4034, on phone 36 330615. We will also be continuing classes at Buderim on Mondays and Thursdays. Classes remain the same at Beerwah, Cooroy and Tewantin.

Sunshine Coast Dog Obedience Trial 3rd Dec.
CDX Monica Krueger & Standard Poodle "Eddie" 190pts – 2nd place.
Congratulations to Barbara & Otto for gaining their Companion Dog Obedience title. Barbara, like quite a few other successful students in the obedience arena, starting training "Otto" with me with only one purpose in mind. That was to be able to take an otherwise unsociable dog for a walk without it pulling her arm out of her socket, and no dog fights. Her Pine Rivers competition was particularly impressive as a storm hit at the time she was due to compete. Midst thunder, lighting and pouring rain Otto’s reliability in his work shone through, as he gave a most impressive performance of obedience work under the most adverse conditions.
Barbara’s obedience title bought our yearly tally to 5. (4 – CD & 1 – CDX)
Xmas Barby
Our annual barby went off brilliantly and certainly one the most enjoyable days I have experienced. The day was a perfect sunny Queensland day in what would have to be one of the best settings in the country – Kuno & Christine Becht’s farm nestled in the mountains outside Nambour. Talk about a dogs party, thirty beautifully behaved dogs ran riot having the time of their lives. Participants in the doggie games enjoyed the generous prizes donated by Denise Marriner from the Mitre 10 Hardware Shop, Caloundra. And the anti barking collar donated as a raffle by our honoured guests from K9 Collars was particularly well received and won by Mary. It was wonderful to see people travel from as far away as the Gold Coast and Brisbane. The dog games and the displays from the senior students and their highly trained dogs was not only most enjoyable, but also motivational to many people. Jo Muster and Mariska added to the festivities with their sparkling personalities particularly on the microphone and with the games. Thomas Muster, who has long envied my long work trousers was presented them as a treasured gift from me.(Story behind that) Kuno, Chirstine & Holga Becht were the perfect hosts as always, and we thank them dearly for sharing their home and their generosity with us.

Health
Colloidal Silver: I bought a colloidal silver maker recently out of curiosity, after viewing a video of an incredible tape of Dr. Bob Beck talking on the benefits of the product, and also a blood cleansing device used to kill virus including aids and cancers.
I found the benefits of colloidal silver most dramatic when I arrived home at Mt. Morgan for the holiday break. My wife’s German Shepherd "Pieute" was suffering from a severe skin condition. He was covered in big red sores and his skin was red raw. He was continually scratching himself. I’ve seen this condition on dogs before and the owners have spent a fortune to treat the animal, often unsuccessfully. The condition seems to abate in winter and recommences in the warmer weather. I made up a batch of the colloidal silver and filled a spray bottle. I soaked him thoroughly with the solution three times throughout the day, and the very next day I found that most of the sores had dried and were obviously healing. Within a few days the dogs sores and the redness of the skin were cured.
I know this doesn’t address the cause of the problem and the dog will still scratch if we are not looking. But whenever we locate the start of a new sore, a quick spray with the solution quickly heals the lesions. I’ve attached some more information on the solution:-
The rediscovery of a Super Antibiotic?
Colloidal silver appears to be a powerful natural antibiotic and preventative against infections. Acting as a catalyst, it reportedly disables the enzyme that one-celled bacteria, viruses and fungi need for their oxygen metabolism. They suffocate without corresponding harm occurring to human enzymes or parts of the human body chemistry. It is the destruction of disease – causing organisms in the body and in the food. Colloidal silver was in common use until 1938. Many remember their grandparents putting silver dollars in milk to prolong its freshness at room temperature.
Early Research
The March 1978 issue of Science Digest; in an article, "Our Mightiest Germ Fighter", reported: Thanks to eye - opening research, silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine. An antibiotic kills perhaps a half - dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills about 650. Resistant strains fail to develop. Moreover, silver is virtually non – toxic." The article ended with a quote by Dr. Harry Margraf, a biochemist and pioneering silver researcher who worked with the late Carl Moyer, M.D., chairman of Washingtons University’s Department of Surgery in the 1970’s. "Silver is the best all round germ fighter we have."
Ingesting Colloidal
Taken orally, the silver solution is absorbed from the mouth into the blood stream then transferred quickly to the body cells. Swishing the solution under the tongue briefly before swallowing ensures fast absorption. In three to four days the silver will have accumulated in the tissues sufficiently for benefits to begin. Since colloidal silver is eliminated by the kidneys, lymph system and bowel after three weeks, a regular daily intake is recommended as a protection against dangerous pathogens. In cases of minor burns, an accumulation of colloidal silver can hasten healing, reducing scar tissue and infection.. The lives of millions of people susceptible to chronic low -grade infections can be enhanced by this powerful preventative health measure.
Topical Uses
Colloidal silver is painless on cuts, abrasions, in open wounds, in the nose for a stuffy nose, and even in a baby’s eyes because, unlike antiseptics, it does not destroy tissue cells. It’s excellent as an underarm deodorant, since most underarm odour is caused by bacteria breaking down substances released by the sweat glands!
Supplier
If you’re interested in purchasing a colloidal silver maker they can be purchased from Buderim resident - Michael Dowsett on Ph. 54 770357 at a cost of around $75.00. Also inquire about the video that includes a thorough run down on the solution. Fascinating viewing.
Quote.
I have taken the liberty of repeating last News Letters quote, because it obviously went over so many peoples heads. So I’ll try again.
"Tony Collins reminded me of an old quote that is very relevant to the training of dogs. "Practice doesn’t necessarily make perfect – perfect practice makes perfect". It is so common to observe people training their dogs faithfully day in and day out boring their dogs with the same tired old routine, not correcting for sloppy work, not praising for good work, not enough repetition or too much repetition, not changing training locations regularly or seeking to add new distractions in order to make the dog focus better, no regular games or fun for the dog. The owner simply does everything that suits them, not the dog. And as we commonly see, often owners insist on training their dogs the way they want to train them – not the way the dog needs to be trained." When is the last time you have laid on the grass and given your dog a quiet cuddle and a little chat? Try it – it helps bonding with your dog and develops a closer rapport. A most essential part of good dog training.
Have a Happy New Year from Myself, Jeffrey, Barbara, Mary, Mariska, Monica and Tony.
