Metro Dog Obedience Trialing Sweepstakes 31-3-01
UD 1st place: Monica Krueger & Standard Poodle “Eddie” - 190pts.

Congratulations must go to Monica with her second appearance in the Utility Dog Competitions. Monica appeared in a sweepstake recently with a heady score of 190pts. Eddie, her standard Poodle is only two years old and Monica a novice handler, were rewarded for the hundreds of hours of dedication and commitment. No shortcuts, no secrets and no excuses, just hours of perseverance.

Tony Collins had to withdraw his German Shepherd Dog “Beau” from the German Shepherd Nationals held in Melbourne this year, due to Beau suffering a leg injury. Tough decision on Tony’s part but the dog is a mate first and competitor second, and I couldn’t agree more. There is always next year.

Book review by Andrew Lloyd-Webber of London UK
I was pleasantly surprised to check my book site on amazon.com recently and found a new review. The new reviewer being the music man himself. I quote:
“This is an excellent book. I had previously tried various methods of training Cynthia, my headstrong Samoyed, involving positive and negative reinforcers. This carrot and stick approach (or choky drop and rice flail approach in our case) did not induce obedience but anxiety and incontinence, which perpetuated the carrot and stick cycle. (i.e. more leatherings) Ross Allan’s regime has been both easier to apply and produces better results. Cynthia and I are most grateful.”

I was very pleased and proud to have another review done on my book by Jo Beth Taylor. (Now the very pregnant Mrs. Jo Muster) Jo is well known as the very much loved television celebrity from “Funniest Home Videos” and “Hey, Hey its Saturday”. Jo is not only one of our keenest students, but also one of the sweetest people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Her husband -Thomas - is the legendary former number one professional Tennis Player who excited the international sports world for years. Thomas is also a keen and talented student, and went out of his way to assist us with the filming of a television segment for “Totally Wild”, for which I am most grateful.

Incidentally, the Totally Wild programme involving us will be shown 4pm. on the 23-4-01, Channel 10.

In a sense there is a certain irony. Very busy people such as Thomas, Jo and Andrew Lloyd-Webber take the time to buy my book and promote the benefits of its contents, yet many of my students unfortunately, don’t even take the time to consider buying the book in order to enhance their training.

There are only two books I encourage people to buy and study at the commencement of their lessons - mine of course - and Val Bonny’s “Who’s the Boss”, an excellent little book on understanding the mind of the dog. Both books are full of valuable information and training tips, necessary to get lot extra out of dog training.

Health
It suddenly occurred to me that you may not have a clue who I am, what Homeopathy is, or why I’ve been invited to write for this newsletter.!!! I am Elaine Holland, I work as a Homeopath and Natural Therapist, I am not a Veterinary Surgeon, I am a dog lover and a dog owner, and I have a clinic at 70 Glenora St. Wynnum.

Homeopathy is a vibrational medicine, containing no chemicals or drugs. Because there are no drugs, there are no unwanted side effects. I practice Homeopathy with humans of all ages, animals of all kinds (dogs, cats, horses, sheep, cattle etc.,) birds and wildlife. Homeopathy stimulates the body to heal itself.

I have a passion for animals and a passion for Homeopathy, so Ross invited me to add an article each month on animal health, diet etc. Simple things that are sometimes available at home, or at least won’t cost an arm/leg. It is my privilege and pleasure to be able to do this.

For those of you who are unaware of this information, let me add that I am also available at Nudgee College from 8.30am on Sundays for any health questions I may be able to assist with. There is no fee for my time. Should Homeopathic remedies be required, they are $10.00 each, to cover costs. This is a free service happily provided by Ross Allan and myself, so please avail yourself of this service. An example question could be about itchy skin, ear mites, worming, fear of loud noises etc.

Should you have any questions about anything in any of my articles, please call me on (07) 3396 2876 or 0414 962876 on weekends. I hope you understand that due to costs I am unable to return long distance calls, however, my email is: eholland@powerup.com.au

Ross and I feel that Homeopathy, Australian and Bach Essences and associated therapies (chiropractic, Bowen, acupuncture, nutrition) strongly affect the outcome of an animal’s health, and that prevention is great. So, this is my story… I look forward to talking with you, hearing about your animals’ needs (and indeed your own needs), getting some feedback from you, and being of service through this newsletter. If there is anything you would like more information on, just call me, leave a message and I will respond ASAP.

Private consultations are by appointment, and can be held either on the Southside, or Northside.

Stay happy and healthy - naturally
Elaine
